Intercede for a new Bible Study beginning in Graz, Austria. It will be an English language opportunity mixing old and new believers and non-Christians. Some of the people committed to attend are dealing with addiction issues and other intense life problems. Petition that the study will go well and that enough buzz will be created that one or more German-language versions will be born. The potential is there, as most of those attending belong to an American Football Club that involves dozens of players, many of whom have expressed interest in exploring the Word. Intercede also for potential leaders to arise, as both GERMANIC CLUSTER members and their Great Commission Christian partners will be leaving Graz this summer.

As a new year begins, people tend to look back on their lives and consider things that they would like to change. Intercede with the GERMANIC CLUSTER that Germans and Austrians will do some deep soul searching this month and that they will discover the void in their lives that can only be filled by Jesus. Ask that they will seek the truth and embrace the Son as their Lord and Savior. Petition that they will experience abundant life as they develop a personal relationship with the Son and learn to walk with Him daily.

Advent is a special time of year as preparations for Christmas are made. In German-speaking countries, homes are decorated with lights, candles and ornaments, cookies are baked, and presents are purchased. Each week an additional candle is lit on the advents wreath and children eagerly open the “door” on their advents calendar each day to find a piece of chocolate or small present. Everyone is busy getting ready for the holiday, but most have missed the “Christ” in Christmas and don’t realize the real reason for celebrating this season. Intercede that this time of year will open doors for members of the GERMANIC CLUSTER to share the true meaning of the coming holiday. Ask that many Germans and Austrians will embrace the Son during Advent and welcome Him into their lives as Lord and Savior.

In the springtime in Germany, toads migrate by the thousands to ponds, where they will lay their eggs. This nightly activity often necessitates the crossing of streets, which puts their lives in great danger. In order to protect them, netting is often put up to keep them from crossing the roads and volunteers then invest long hours, scooping them up in buckets and safely delivering them to the other side of the street. Toads are completely unaware of the danger they face and their need for a “savior” to deliver them safely to their destination. Many Germanic people, like these toads, are going through life, unaware of the danger that lies ahead. Intercede with the GERMANIC CLUSTER that they will recognize their need for a Savior, who can rescue them from their sin. Petition that they will place their trust in the Son, so that they will be able to safely enter into God’s eternal Kingdom.

Germans, Austrians, and Swiss tend to be very private. Family relationships are strong, but friendships are developed slowly and carefully. It is a great privilege to be invited into a German home to share a meal. The host will make elaborate preparations, decorating the table with candles and flowers. A small piece of chocolate is often laid beside each plate. The guest is expected to bring a small gift, such as flowers, chocolate or wine. A blessing is rarely said, but once everyone is seated at the table, the host will indicate that it’s time to begin eating by wishing everyone “Guten Appetit!” Intercede with members of the GERMANIC CLUSTER that Germans will invite the Lord into their lives and become fully aware of all the blessings He gives them.

Have you ever heard the word “Angst”? This is the German word for fear that was adopted into the English language in the 1940s. It is a word that well-describes many Germans, who tend to be filled with fear and anxiety. They are concerned about the environment and their national identity and worry about politics and the economy. Outsiders might come to the conclusion that they like worrying and have a good time doing it. Their fear causes them to be critical and pessimistic about almost everything in life. Intercede that GERMANIC PEOPLES will find peace and joy, as they place their trust in the Lord and learn to leave their worries in His Hands. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God…casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you” (1 Pet. 5:6-7 NASB).

Umm…can you smell the fresh baked bread? In Germanic countries, long lines are a common sight every morning at neighborhood bakeries, as customers come to purchase their daily supply of bread products that are eaten for both breakfast and supper. Bakeries produce over 200 varieties of bread and rolls, called “Brötchen” (or “little bread”). There is whole wheat bread, rye bread, bread and rolls with pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or oatmeal sprinkled on top, cheese bread, sour dough bread, croissants, baguettes, and pretzel rolls. Bread is a staple that they just can’t live without. Intercede with the GERMANIC CLUSTER that Germanic people will come to know and depend on the “Bread of Life,” just as much as they depend on their daily bread.
