Spiritual Needs in South Tyrol, Italy

Castles, churches and crucifixes are visible everywhere in South Tyrol, Italy. Overall, the people enjoy a high standard of living with little unemployment and a low crime rate. A group of prayerwalkers from the GERMANIC CLUSTER give praise for the opportunity to explore this area and to “pray on site with insight” for the people here of whom the majority are German-speakers. Through a conversation with a policeman, some of the prayerwalkers learned that the people have few needs and that drugs and alcohol are the main problems they have to deal with. Other members of the group discovered that segregation exists between the Italians and Germans living in this area and one German waitress described the Italians as being “strange and different.” Although the people have few physical needs, their spiritual needs are great. Intercede that their eyes will be opened and that the lies of the evil one will be dispelled. Petition the Father to call out workers to share the Good News with these German-speakers. Intercede that the South Tyroleans will realize that the Son is interested in a personal relationship with them and not in religious traditions and rituals.

UPG Prayerwalk in South Tyrol, Italy

The high mountains, wide valleys, and scenic lakes that characterize the landscape of South Tyrol, Italy attract many tourists. These visitors come and go throughout the year, enjoying all this area has to offer. Although part of Italy, this region is home to around 484,000 Germans and Austrians, who speak a dialect of German. Despite being surrounded daily by the beauty of G*d’s creation, there are few believers among them, making them an Unreached People Group (UPG). During the next few days, a group of Team Prayer Advocates from Germany and Austria (GERMANIC CLUSTER) will be prayerwalking among these people. Intercede that their petitions will break down barriers and open the hearts of these South Tyroleans towards God. Ask for spiritual and physical protection. Intercede that the Father will call out workers to come live among these people and share the Good News with them.

Rejoice with members of TEAM NAPLES (WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN CLUSTER) that they have been very warmly welcomed back to Naples (Italy) after a six-month stateside assignment. They request that we lift up the economic difficulties there. While they were gone, quite a few stores have closed – some that have been around for over a century. Ask that as Neapolitans are anxious about the economy that they will discover the perfect peace found only in the Son.

Unreached People Group: Albanians in Italy

UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP: Imagine moving to another country, where the people look just like you. You learn their language, eat their food, embrace their culture and act like the locals, but still you are rejected because of your heritage. This is the plight of Albanian immigrants in Italy, who have arrived after 1991. Academic studies have examined this peculiar “Albanian Assimilation Paradox” because it is so unusual. Normally, when a people of similar skin color whole-heartedly take on the new culture, there is little opposition by the host country. Instead, the newly arrived Albanians are the most rejected people group by Italian society. Intercede that this rejected group will have opportunities to hear the Good News of the Son’s love for them and find acceptance in Him.

New Cell Groups in Rome

Rejoice that the church plant in Laurentino, Rome has begun new cell groups. Their Thursday evening outreach time grew too big, so they have divided into 3 groups and are meeting in homes. One member of the ROME TEAM (WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN CLUSTER) meets with a younger “sports” group and his wife with mostly older women and a third group of young adults. They will still meet once a month all together. Intercede that believers will become stronger and others will come to faith.

Evangelizing Roma in Rome

God at Work in Rome, Italy

The ROME TEAM (WESTERN MEDITERRANEAN CLUSTER) now has a small building that they are confident will soon host a church plant. This confidence stems from the certainty that God made this building possible, and because they sense that He is at work in a big way. In Oct., they hosted a photo show for Italian photographers to display their work and over 100 people visited! Recently, they maxed out their upstairs room with university students for a movie night. They have also started a Bible study. Intercede for a core group of Italian believers that will be the beginning of a church plant. Ask that they will be the light of Christ and serve the community.
